Wow! Sonic wizardry from Lambkin...locally sourced field recordings on tape, much rummaging, mumbling/muttering into mic. Hard to tell what exactly he was doing, but there was no doubt he was completely in control of the whole sonic situation. Oli P-W is a great drummer, I was pleased to discover, really creative, Sam very intense, especially when GL was applying some kind of power tool to the exposed grand piano strings.
Then it was on to the Black Griffin for Jules' birthday open mic takeover, a pre-St. Patrick's thing with The Pinnochios (this time Callum, Jake on fiddle, Martin Emmons on bass + Jules on sax) playing "WIld Rover", "The Irish Rover" and "Whisky in the Jar". Predictable choices, but passionate renditions from the always passionate Callum, on this occasion looking like a young Van Morrison and singing like several people at once...sounding like he really MEANT it.
