33-1/3 Revolutions per Monkee

Tim showed me this the other night (his birthday) - something that was actually broadcast on American network TV in 1969. It's the last that was seen of The Monkees by the American public (until a rather pointless 80's reunion). This is the last ten minutes - worth watching right through, as it turns into a properly insane jam. That's Brian Auger tearing it up on the organ, Buddy Miles on drums, and a load of freaks bussed in from the Sunset Strip for the occasion.

Apparently, they'd planned four of these TV specials, but (hardly surprisingly) the other three got axed! The program as a whole aesthetically lies somewhere near the midpoint of The Prisoner and The Magic Roundabout and features pleasingly incongruous guest appearances from Fats Domino, Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis, among others. You can find the rest of it in ten minute chunks on YouTube.
