Patti Smith: Dream of Life
Documentary by Steven Sebring, seen at Gulbenkian Cinema, Canterbury.
A masterpiece. I am now even more in awe of Patti Smith that I was as an impressionable student twenty years ago. This is an extraordinary bit of film, and quite likely to be of interest even to people with no previous awareness of her life or work. It's almost all footage shot in the past ten years (apart from a little interview clip from NYC in the mid-70's). Dreamlike, non-linear, funny, hugely inspiring. Go and see it.
Patti Smith in 1979, and more recently
